PROBABLE NOVA In M31

K. Hornoch, H. Kucakova (Astronomical Institute, Ondrejov, Czech Republic)
reports on ATEL 15512 the discovery of a probable nova in M31 caught in
early stage of eruption on a co-added 1620-s R-band CCD frame taken on 2022
Jul. 12.937 UT with the 0.65-m telescope at Ondrejov.

The object designated PNV J00422940+4115430 is located at:
RA. 0h42m29s.40, DEC +41o15'43".0 (2000), which is 168.3" west and 25.5"
south of the centre of M31.

The following R-band magnitudes were obtained using the 0.65-m telescope at
Ondrejov:

2022 Jul. 12.029 UT, [20.0; 12.937, 18.0 ± 0.1; 13.012, 17.83
± 0.04.

As with all extragalactic novae, follow-up spectroscopic and photometric
observations to confirm the nova's nature and determine its spectroscopic
class and rate of decline (speed class) are encouraged.
