This supernova in NGC 3451 was discovered by Tom Boles on 1997 October 29
and was announced on IAUC 6763. It has been confirmed spectroscopically as
a type II SN.
Tom is now the third U.K. observer to discover a supernova.

Tom obtained this image at 0415 on 1997 October 30 using a Meade 10"
LX200, Optec f/3.3 focal reducer and an SX framestore camera. It is a combination
of 12 80sec exposures.
