P/Comet Reinmuth 1 (1987r)

T.Gehrels and J.V.Scotti, University of Arizona, report that they
have recovered this comet with the 0.91-m SPACEWATCH telescope on
July 22/23 at m1=19.6. The positions are close to predictions on
MPC 10524 and 11864.                               (IAUC 4424)

P/Comet Encke

Robert McNaught, Siding Spring Observatory, Australia, e-mails that
this comet is now under observation:
1987 July 21.25UT, 5.2 (G.W.Wolf, Wellington, New Zealand, 7x50B);
24.35, 7.1 (G.Garradd, Tamworth, N.S.W 0.15-m refl.); 24.36, 6.9
(R.H.McNaught, 9x63B).
He adds that both he and Garradd independently estimated a coma
diameter of 1' and DC of 8, the comet appearing as a small
condensed disc.
He mentions that the comet is readily visible in the evening
twilight from his location, but is expected to fade as it moves
into a darker sky making visual observation more difficult.

This apparition is almost solely visible from the southern
hemisphere.
(Part of the above also appears in IAUC 4425).
