The object had brightened to B=approx 16 on 1987 Dec 29. The magnitude of the galaxy is 15.4pg and the pos SN offset from the nucleus 7.5"W and 0.5"S. IAUC 4523 Could photographers please attempt confirmation. METEOR WATCH RECORD? Following the note on E107, George Alcock advises us that the 'record' refers to 1952 Jan 3 and the watch started 17.50UT and finished 06.38UT on Jan 4.
