David Greenwood reports that his examination of the Franklin Adams
Charts of 1908 Dec 28 shows no candidate to B=15.
Further estimates:
1988 Mar 28.78UT, 11.4 (A.Boattini, Florence, Italy); Apr 1.06,
11.0 (C.Scovil, Stamford, USA); Apr 3.88UT, 11.3 (G.Hurst, 0.44-m refl, Basingstoke);
Rob McNaught mentions that the range and colour give the impression
of a nova-like object or a dwarf nova. A mira-type would not appear
to be possible as the blue Palomar Print clearly shows it 2-3
magnitudes above the limit whereas on the red, it is at the limit
and barely visible.
Further observations and photographs are urgently required and it
may also be useful if those with filters were to take consecutive
exposures via blue and red to check whether there is any obvious
colour at present.

DO DRACONIS
Further observations of the current outburst:
1988 Apr 1.860, 11.3 (P.Schmeer, W.Germany); 1.905, 11.3 (Schmeer);
2.894UT, 12.9 (G.Hurst); 2.901UT, 13.2 (S.Korth, W.Germany).

SN 1988A IN M58
G.Johnstone, Leamington Spa, reports that a photograph of this
object taken on Mar 26 at 00.32UT with 0.25-m refl yields a pv mag
of 14.7, the same value as on a photo taken a month earlier. This
object has been seriously neglected and more observations are
needed.
