NOVA ANDROMEDAE 1988
Graeme Waddington, University of Oxford, reports his measurement
of the Hurst candidate on the Palomar Sky Survey with the following
results:
Red Copy RA 02h26m22.03s DEC +39 49'18.8" (1950)
Blue 02 26 22.03 +39 49 18.5
He comments that the blue copy image is approx 3" across
but similar to other magnitude 18 images nearby suggesting some
distortion near the edge of the plate and thus leading to errors
in measurement which may account for the difference between the
outburst image and POSS star.
Mark Kidger has faxed complete copies of the spectra of the
object obtained at La Palma on 1988 July 22 by P.Garcia et al and
on July 25 by J.Lub. Both were taken in excellent conditions (dark
sky and seeing approx 1") with the 4.2-m William Herschel
telescope.
The July 22 spectrum shows strong H-alpha with a possible double
peak and evidence of a weak P-Cygni profile. The continuum is
fairly blue. The July 25 results do not show the H-alpha P-Cygni
profile. There was again strong H-alpha and also H-beta and He II.
The H-alpha was a single unsplit line.
Further analysis is continuing.
