NSV 6708
W.A.Lawson, P.M.Kilmartin, A.C.Gilmore and M.Clark, Mount John
Observatory, report a rapid decrease in the brightness of the
suspected R CrB star NSV 6708. Preliminary photometry:
Aug 23.49UT, V=7.13, B-V=+0.48; Aug 27.36, 7.17, +0.49; Sept 2.40,
7.46, +0.50; Sept. 5.45, 7.81, +0.53.            IAUC 4650

issued 870715. The position is:
RA 14h31m41s DEC -39 20'13"(1950).
Rob McNaught reports that the fade was independently detected by
Peter Williams, Heathcote, NSW, Australia:
Aug 30.38UT,7.3; Sept 4.45,7.4; 5.38,7.3; 6.39,7.6
McNaught estimated it at 7.9 on Sept 7.39UT.
He further comments:
"The star has been spectroscopically confirmed as a "hot" R CrB
like DY Cen by University of Canterbury observer Warrick Lawson.
Observations by Williams and McNaught during the last minimum show
a) A very rapid fade of 0.5 mag/day, reaching 12.0 around
1987 July 23.
b) Recovery to mag 10.0 around 1987 Sept 1.
c) Second minimum of 11.8 around 1987 Sept 26.
d) Rapid brightening to 8.8 on 1987 Oct 18.
e) More gradual rise, reaching its normal max of around 7.3 in
1987 December."
