LA PALMA PROJECT
The revised list of stars was given on E216 and I have received
confirmation that this is final. Could observers please e-mail
their observations of these stars (SU UMa, RX And, U Gem; YZ Cnc)
positive or negative made this month by Dec 1 AT THE LATEST.
The project finishes on 1989 Jan 25 and we are asked to participate
with immediate effect by making nightly checks on all four stars.
Please e-mail weekly reports on Thursdays with all estimates,
instrumentation and sequences used.
However, in addition please e-mail using 'EXPRESS' if any star goes
into outburst or RX And is entering a standstill.

CY UMA
Further to the note on E215, this query was not satisfactorily
resolved as most observers reported the weather had prevented
checking for an outburst. However the (C) chart urgently needs
revision to help future monitoring on the recurrent objects
programme. Could I therefore ask that every effort is made to
secure a prime focus photograph of the field within the next few
weeks. Ideally I would then appreciate a print to scale 1mm=10".
To also help determine a sequence, an equivalent length exposure on
NGC 3733 (RA 11h32.2m DEC +55 08',1950) would be helpful as we
already have stars measured photoelectrically in this field to
V=16.4.

SUPERNOVAE 1988W AND 1988X
C. Pollas, Observatoire de la Cote d'Azur, reports his discovery
of two apparent supernovae on a 15301 plate taken Nov. 17.20 UT; a
confirmation plate (IIIa-J emulsion) was taken Nov. 21.21.
SN 1988W is located at R.A. = 9h39m44.70, Decl. = +26 57'49.4(1950)
in an anonymous galaxy at R.A. = 9h39m45.86, Decl. = +26 57' 44.9.
The supernova was at mag 20.8 (+/- 0.3) on Nov. 17 and 20.2 on
Nov. 21.SN 1988X is located at R.A.= 9h20m35.51, Decl.=+25 59'04.0,
in another anonymous galaxy at R.A. = 9h20.5, Decl. = +25 59'); the
galaxy's nucleus contains two apparent condensations at
(end figures) 34s.76, 04".3; 34s.98, 02".8. SN 1988X was at mag
20.0 (+/- 0.3) on Nov. 17 and 19.6 (+/- 0.3) on Nov. 21.
