Telephone: (0256)471074 Int:+44256471074 Telex: 94082518 Answerback: TAGUY ------------------------------------------------------------------ TASV 0413+31 (=Q1989/104) Mike Collins, Sandy, reports his discovery of an uncatalogued variable on UK Nova/Supernova Patrol photos of 1989 Dec 22 and located at: RA 04h13.7m DEC +31 14'(1950). The discovery magnitude, based on K2415 film, is 10.9 whereas exposures in 1989 February show it near 10.2. The Editor notes that the star is at about 10.5 on both Stellarum (1968 Feb 29) and Lick (1953 Dec 30). The latter also shows 3 or 4 stars very close together at the variable's location and a prime focus photograph is now needed to help improve identification. A chart is available on e-mail request. TASV 0714+39 (=Q1989/105) Collins reports detection of a further variable located at: RA 07h14.5m DEC +39 12'(1950). The discovery magnitude is 9.2 (1989 Dec 22.9UT) whereas it appears at 10.3 on 1989 Jan 15. On Lick ( 1954 Dec 21) and Stellarum (1968 Apr 20) the star is near 10.1. A chart is available on e-mail request. TAV 0329+41 (=Q1989/106) Collins also reports another variable in Perseus at: RA 03h29.1m DEC +41 16'(1950). He finds it at 11.0 on 1989 Feb 7 whereas exposures around Sept 7 place it at 12.1. The star is not recorded on Lick (1953 Nov 3) or Stellarum (1969 Mar 8) to a limit of approximately 14.0. Dave McAdam has searched earlier patrol photos and has estimates ranging 10.4-11.9, also based on K2415. A chart is available on e-mail request. UW PERSEI In response to the appeal on E379, Martin Mobberley reports that a prime focus photograph on 1990 Jan 19 (21.44-22.14UT) with his 0.36-m reflector on T-Max 400 film shows no new object to approximately mag 16.5, when compared with the POSS charts.
