POSSIBLE VAR IN NGC 3587 (=Q1990/7)
Frank Miablint, Nuremberg, West Germany, reports an observation of
a magnitude 12 star near the edge of the Owl Nebula (=NGC 3587
RA 11h11m53s DEC +55 17,1950) where normally only a magnitude 17
object is recorded on photographs. The star, seen on 1990 Jan 26
and 27, appears to coincide with a mag 17 object shown on Burnhams
page 1999 and located 87mm from the bottom edge and 64mm from the
right. He estimated it equal to another star 60mm from bottom and
51mm from right on the above dates, using a 0.26-m refl and UHE
Lumicon Filter. The suspect does not appear to be a known variable
and is about 70"N of the central star (the latter, of mag 14, was
not seen during the observation). Photographs would be welcomed.
