SUPERNOVA 1990R IN UGC 11699
J. Mueller reports her discovery of a supernova (mag about 17.5) in
UGC 11699 (R.A. = 21h09m.9, Decl. = +12 24', equinox 1950.0). The
supernova, located 10".1 east of the galaxy's center, was found on
a blue plate exposed on June 26 UT with the 1.2-m Oschin Telescope
in the course of the second Palomar Sky Survey. A. V. Filippenko
and J. C. Shields, University of California, Berkeley, report that
CCD spectra (range 390-980 nm, resolution 1-2 nm), obtained on
July 17 UT with the Shane 3-m reflector at Lick Observatory, show
SN 1990R to be of type Ia, probably 1-2 months past maximum
brightness.
