TAV 0042+53 (=Q1990/67)
Mike Collins, Sandy, England, reports his discovery of an
uncatalogued variable in Cas at: RA 00h42.2m DEC +53 10'(1950).
On UK Nova/Supernova Patrol photographs of 1990 Aug 17 the magnitude
was estimated at 12.2 (K2415) whereas in 1988 November the star was
as bright as 10.3. Identification is uncertain as the star is one
of three not easily resolved on 135mmFL format shots and a prime
focus photograph is urgently needed to assist. The format of the
group is approximately: A
                           B
                         C with south up.
Star B is the probable candidate as it appears to be missing from
two atlases:
Atlas Stellarum 1969 August 19 [14.B
Lick 1954 August 8 [14.5B
whereas it is visible on TVMPSA.
A preliminary (B) chart is available from the Editor and the
e-mail version should be requested from Mike Collins.
