MICRONET/PRESTEL
As an alternative to joining TELECOM GOLD direct, it is possible to
take out a special subscription to MICRONET/PRESTEL/TELECOM GOLD, all
specifically designed for the Personal Computer user.
The cost of the MICRONET/PRESTEL subscription is #23.00 per quarter.
Connect charges for this service are:
Midnight - 8am  Free
Off-Peak - (6pm-midnight, Mon-Sat) 1.15p per minute
Peak       (8am-6pm, Mon-Sat)      8.05p per minute
All other times                    1.15p per minute
Other services:
Electronic mail and Telex incoming: FREE
Telex outgoing                    : From 57.5p per page.
As part of a combined MICRONET/PRESTEL account, you can also join
INTERLINK which provides you with a standard TELECOM GOLD box on
System 74.
The cost of this additional facility is #3.45 per quarter plus
the usual time/character charges outlined in E479b.
The above prices include VAT.
The editor uses this combined facility and, as a guide, my latest
quarterly bill for all three services was #22 although primarily for
using TELECOM GOLD and with very limited use of the other services.
It is then possible to access TELECOM GOLD via a local call to
PRESTEL and calling up the appropriate page number, without using
PSS and incurring those charges. Alternatively you can log into
TELECOM GOLD direct via PSS (if you have such an account) or by
telephoning it direct via a London number (081).
PRESTEL is probably well known to most of you and MICRONET is merely
the personal computing area providing software which you can download
and general hints and advice about Micros.
You may be able to obtain a demonstration of MICRONET today using
Viewdata software by dialling (0272) 250000. Use ID 4444444444 and
password 4444.
This represents a useful all-round package as an alternative to
direct registration with TELECOM GOLD. To join merely telephone:
0800 200 700 and use your credit card details.
