THE ASTRONOMER Electronic Circular No 490 1991 Feb 28 18.50UT Ed:Guy M Hurst, 16,Westminster Close, Kempshott Rise, Basingstoke, Hants, RG22 4PP, England. Telephone: (0256)471074 Int:+44256471074 Telex: 9312111261 Answerback: TA G Microlink: MAG60138 JANET:GMH @ UK.AC.CAM.ASTRONOMY.STARLINK GUYH@UK.AC.SUSSEX.CLUSTER TELECOM GOLD: 10074:MIK2885 PRESTEL 256471074 ------------------------------------------------------------------- MICROLINK This will be the last circular issued to those on MICROLINK as the latter service ceases tonight. The E-Circulars have been issued on MICROLINK since 1987 Jan 24 when the first item was the discovery announcement of Comet Nishikawa-Takamizawa-Tago (1987c). To date no-one has definitely confirmed that they are switching to the F.I.S. option and therefore I do not intend to retain a box on that system. Effective from 1991 March 1, this service will continue on JANET, its overseas equivalents and on TELECOM GOLD. To date the following have already established GOLD facilities: Mike Collins 10087:SQQ1294 Martin Ratcliffe 10083:PTM001 Tony Miller 10074:MIK2188 Tom Saville 10073:TTI107 Ian Townend 10074:MIK016 Dave McAdam 10087:YQQ587 Guy Hurst 10074:MIK2885 In addition we understand that the following are in the course of setting up GOLD boxes: Nick James, Graham Keitch, Martin Mobberley, Storm Dunlop. Others are in the course of seeking facilities on JANET. I am anxious that we do not lose anyone from the e-group and I would appreciate a telephone call from any Ex-Microlinkers not mentioned above with details of their future plans. If anyone is subject to a delay in obtaining their new mailbox I can send paper copies of the e-circulars for a period of up to one month upon request. R CRB VARIABLES We have received a request from professional astronomers to monitor all R CrB-type variables in the northern and southern skies and to alert them if any start to fade. Please e-mail or telephone the Editor if any fade is detected. PERIODIC COMET SHOEMAKER-LEVY 4 (1991f) Improved orbital elements by B. G.
