SUPERNOVA 1991ar IN IC 49
R. H. McNaught, Anglo-Australian Observatory, reports his discovery
of a supernova, designated 1991ar, of mag about 17 on a J plate
taken by K. S. Russell with the U.K. Schmidt Telescope on Sept.2.64
UT. The supernova is situated in a knot on the edge of a spiral arm
of IC 49 and has coordinates R.A. = 0h41m22s.58, Decl.= +1 34'48".6
(equinox 1950.0, uncertainty 0".4 in each coordinate), or 8".5 east
and 12".5 north of the nucleus. No star appears in this position
on a U.K. Schmidt J plate taken on 1984 Nov. 14. A nearby star of
mag about 16, situated on the edge of the galaxy, has end figures
23s.93, 26".9.
