SUPERNOVAE
J. Mueller reports her discovery of three supernovae on plates
taken by J. D. Mendenhall and herself with the 1.2-m Oschin
Telescope at Palomar in the course of the Second Sky Survey:

SN 1991as:
is 8".7 east and 13".4 south of the center of an anonymous galaxy
at R.A. = 22 46 10, Decl. = +7 54.6 (equinox 1950.0) and was of mag
about 18 (blue) on Aug. 19 UT. A spectrum obtained on Sept. 4 by
M. Schmidt, J. Gunn and D. Schneider with the Hale 5-m telescope
(+ 4 shooter + spectrograph) tentatively indicates it is of type I.

SN 1991at:
is 20" east and 34" north of the nucleus of UGC 733
(R.A. = 1 08.0, Decl. = +16 20, equinox 1950.0) and was also of mag
about 18 (blue) on Aug. 19 UT. The object is not on a red PSS II
plate taken by Mueller on 1987 Oct. 18. A 1991 Sept. 4 spectrum by
Schmidt et al. tentatively indicates that this is also of type I.

SN 1991au:
is 14" west and 2" south of the nucleus of UGC 11616
(R.A. = 20 40.3, Decl. = +63 19, equinox 1950.0) and was of mag
about 18.5 (red) on Sept. 1 UT. A spectrum obtained by Schmidt et
al. on Sept. 4 tentatively indicates that this is a type II.
