TAV 1831+19 (=Q1991/68)
Mike Collins, Sandy, reports his discovery of an uncatalogued
variable star in Her located at: RA 18h 31.6m DEC +19 00'(1950)
The object appeared bright on photos of 1991 Aug 8.9UT at magnitude
10.9 (135mmFL, K2415). Analysis by Mike shows that the star had a
sharp maximum in early 1989 May and a deep min in early 1991 May.
The object is not in the IRAS or Dearborn catalogues suggesting
that it is NOT one of the many red variables found during this
patrol. This is further endorsed by the editor's review of the
following blue-sensitive atlases where the star is not faint as
is usual for red objects: 1954 Aug 23 F-2 11.6 Lick Atlas
                          1955 July 16 F-2 11.6 Lick Atlas
                          1967 Aug 5 F-2 11.6 Atlas Stellarum
These absolute values may be distorted by the colour index of F.
Mike Collins further reports that there are two objects in the
GSC close to this position:
GSC 1578.01162 18h 33m 47.59s +19 02' 14.5" (2000) V=11.16
GSC 1578.01746 18h 33m 47.59s +19 02' 19.5" (2000) V=12.05
Both of these objects are listed as 'class 3' (ie non-stellar).
A SIMBAD search shows only two objects within 10':
HDE 348898 18h 31m 39s +19 08.8'(1950) =Star C on TA sequence.
UGC 11273 Galaxy of mag 15.7.
It is possible that if there is a close double that some of the
minimum values mentioned in this circular may not relate to
the variable but the brighter companion? Astrophotographers are
urged to secure prime focus photographs of this field so that an
attempt may be made to establish which star is the variable. Please
send results to the editor for analysis. E-chart follows:
