QUADRANTIDS 1992
Dr.Mark Kidger, Tenerife, has faxed the following report today:
"Luis Chinarro reports that whilst he and Luis Manade were taking
photographs with the Mons Telescope in Teide Observatory on the
morning of 1992 January 4, they saw a burst of meteoric activity
which, from the described radiant point, was almost certainly the
Quadrantids. Luis reports that, whilst checking the sky outside the
dome, he saw 9 meteors in 2-3 minutes, at around 03.00UT. From the
Canary Islands the radiant is still quite low at this time of the
morning, so the implied rate of activity is very high.
This report is confirmed by Luis Lopez, Carlos Vazquez and Pablo
Rodriquez of the Agrupacion Astronomica de Tenerife. Observing
from a nearby site they registered 77 meteors in 80 minutes with
16 meteors in 6 minutes from 02.55-03.01UT. They estimate that the
naked eye limit was about 6.5."
