M. Larson and C. D.Slaughter with the 1.5-m reflector (+ CCD) at the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory's Catalina Station. Co-adding of the Cousins R-band images showed a 10" coma and hint of a tail. The comet was also detected on Sept. 18. The following positions are very close to the prediction on MPC 16380 (ephemeris on MPC 19888). 1992 UT R.A. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports that this comet has been recovered by T. Seki, Geisei, using a 0.60-m f/3.5 reflector. The comet was nearly stellar with slight diffuseness on Oct. 1. The prediction on MPC 16379 (ephemeris on MPC 20353) requires correction by Delta(T) = -0.14 day. The prediction with nongravitational terms by Muraoka on Nakano Note No. 557 (ephemeris on page 60 of Comet Handbook 1992, Oriental Astronomical Assn.) requires correction by Delta(T) = -0.02 day. 1992 UT R.A. Schmidt, U.S. Naval Observatory, report that P/Swift-Tuttle was observed on Sept. 30.0 UT with the 0.6-m reflector (+ CCD + H-alpha filter) in Washington. A co-addition of seven 90-s images shows a prominent fan-shaped inner coma with jets or extensions of length 22" at p.a. 220 deg and length 19" at p.a. 262 deg. IAUC 5627 The following positive visual reports have been received from TA Observers: 1992 Sept 29.80UT, m1=9.0, dia 11' (Roy Panther, Northampton, 0.25-m refl.), 1992 Sept 29.85UT, m1=9.3, dia 2.8' (Haakon Dahle, Norway, 0.20-m T). 1992 Sept 29.89UT, m1=9.5, (Jonathan Shanklin, Cambridge, 0.14-m refractor). 1992 Sept 30.14UT, m1=9.0, (Bjorn Granslo, Norway, 0.20-m T) 1992 Sept 30.84UT, m1=9.0, dia 6' (Panther). 1992 Oct 2.15UT, m1=8.8, dia 5' (Alfredo Pereira, Portugal, 0.15-m refl.); Other observers report failure to detect it at all but its diffuse nature coupled with larger apertures and higher powers may be a hindrance.
