MARS
Ken Irving, on behalf of the Salford Astronomical Society, e-mails
that a bright patch has been observed on Mars on 1993 Jan 1 at
21.15UT. He has discussed this on the telephone with Richard Baum
of the BAA who confirms he also has seen the event.
The feature may be a cloud, mist/fog or dust. Observations using
a blue filter brought out the feature better than via a green
filter although it was also easily visible without filters.
The albedo was less than the polar cap and the colour yellow with
occasional white. Approximate reductions are given;
          Central Meridian at 21:15 = 316deg Long.
Position of 'Cloud' = 270deg Long.
                                    = -10deg Lat. p.limb side.

GRO J 0422+32
Nick James, Chelmsford points out that there are differing
identifications for this object in his photograph of 1992 Aug 23
(TA Cover 1992 Oct) and that by Jean-Claude Merlin of 1992 Aug 24
(TA Cover 1992 Nov). The Editor has carried out another analysis
using a GSC download and the precise position by N.Shakhovskoj
of the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory which was published on
IAUC 5590. From this it appears the correct identification is
as per the arrowed object in the photograph by N.James.
A new chart follows to avoid further confusion:
