MU LEPORIS

A report has been relayed by Jonathan Shanklin, Cambridge from
Shaun Burkey at the Halley Research Station on Antarctica in which
he details a possible rapid fluctation in the brightness of Mu Lep.

The star was first observed by Shaun Burkey on 1993 June 29 at
04.40UT when it was about 25 degrees above the horizon. For about
10 minutes the estimated magnitude was around +1. Thereafter it
faded down to its normal magnitude of 3 with period of about 1
second. There was no obvious fluctuation from magnitude 1 in the
initial period and no apparent atmospheric effects to cause such
changes. During the bright interval Shaun mentions that Sirius was
visible nearby and slightly brighter than Mu Lep.

GCVS IV listed Mu as a variable but only with a range of
2.97-3.41V, type ACV. Its position is:
RA 05h10m41s DEC -16 15.8' (1950)
