The new object is located 4" west and 31".6 north of the nucleus of a galaxy at (R.A. = 5h41m.5, Decl. = +63o20', 1950.0). IAUC 5879 PERIODIC COMET URATA-NIIJIMA (1993q) This comet has been recovered by J. V. Scotti with the Spacewatch telescope at Kitt Peak, as shown below. A 11" coma was visible on Oct. 20.49 (15" on Oct. 21.50); a 0'.4 tail was visible on both nights in p.a. 290-292 deg; m2 = 22.7 on both nights. The indicated correction to the prediction on MPC 16380 is Delta(T) = +0.24 day. 1993 UT R.A. Gary Poyner confirmed this sighting: 1993 Oct 18.815, 15.1; 18.913, 14.7. TAV 1831+19 Gary Poyner also reports his confirmation that the northern component of a pair is the variable as the following results show: Northern Component Southern Component 1993 Aug 16.888UT 12.5 13.1 Oct 17.791UT 11.2 13.1 He further notes that the variable has a strong red colour. SAO 96985 Tim Haymes, Reading, writes that he observed a lunar occultation of this star (=BD +17 1596 = ZC 1141) on 1993 Oct 9. The star was seen 06.50-07.00UT as a magnitude 5.6 primary but a companion of about magnitude 6 was also noted at PA 045 approximately 5-10 arcseconds distant from 'A'. The position of the primary is: RA 07h28m55s Dec +17 11 [1950]. This observation was in daylight but subsequently he again observed the star in darkness on Oct 15 (02.30-03.30UT) but did not see the companion. The Editor notes that the star is not listed as double in catalogues so far checked, in particular the CD Rom edition of the Washington Catalog of Visible Doubles (1984). Can anyone shed further light on this result?
