J. Lane and P. Gray, Burke-Gaffney Observatory, Saint Mary's University, report their discovery via CCD on Feb. 10-11 of a supernova located about 2" east and 1" south of the centre of NGC 2726 (R.A. = 9h04m.9, Decl. = +59o56', equinox 2000.0). An unfiltered frame on Feb. 14.042 UT showed the object at mag 14.7. A foreground star of mag 14.9 is located 19".6 west and 14".9 south of SN 1995F. A. V. Filippenko and A. J. Barth, University of California at Berkeley, report that preliminary inspection of uncalibrated CCD spectra (range 310-1050 nm, resolution 0.7-1.5 nm) obtained on Feb.24 with the 3-m Shane reflector at Lick Observatory confirms that this object is a supernova, most likely of type Ic (but possibly Ib), roughly 2-3 weeks past maximum brightness. IAUC 6138 SUPERNOVA 1995G IN NGC 1643 Robert O. Evans, Coonabarabran, N.S.W., communicates his visual discovery on Feb. 23.5 UT with J. Shobbrook and S. Beaman, using the Australian National University's 1-m reflector at Siding Spring, of an apparent supernova (mag 15.5) in NGC 1643 (R.A. = 4h43m.6, Decl. = -5o19', equinox 2000.0). SN 1995G is located about 3" east and 15" north of the galaxy's centre. A confirming 4415 film was exposed for 10 min by P. Cass with the U.K. Schmidt Telescope on Feb. 24.45. IAUC 6138 NOVA CENTAURI 1995 W. Liller, Instituto Isaac Newton, Vina del Mar, reports his discovery of a probable nova with PROBLICOM on Feb. 23 and his CCD confirmation on Feb. 24, the latter yielding the position R.A. = 13h02m32s.07, Decl. = -60d11'39".8 (equinox 2000.0; blend with GSC 8909.2001 at end figures 33s.52, 53".7, mag 12.4). Magnitudes and colours: Jan. 27, [12 (Liller); Feb. 23.31 UT, 7.2 (Liller; Kodak TP film + orange filter); 24.04, V = 7.59 (Liller; CCD, comparison HD 113012, assumed V = 8.13, B-V = +0.11); 24.15, V = 7.70 (Liller); 25.03, mv = 8.0 (D. Overbeek, Edenvale, South Africa); 25.41, V = 8.14, U-B = -0.68, B-V = +0.31, V-R = +1.01, V-I = +1.17 (A. C. Gilmore, Mt. John Observatory; comparisons Cousins F218 and F205, airmass 1.53). IAUC 6139 R. H. McNaught, Anglo-Australian Observatory, communicates the following precise position by G. J. Garradd (Loomberah, N.S.W., 0.25-m reflector): R.A. = 13h02m31s.99, Decl. = -60d11'38".1 (equinox 2000.0, uncertainty 0".3 in each coordinate). On the measured CCD frame the star is not blended with the GSC star mentioned by W. Liller. IAUC 6140 KV ANDROMEDAE Tonny Vanmunster, Landen, Belgium reports an outburst detection of the cataclysmic variable KV And: 1995 02 17.802 UT, [14.5 (T. Vanmunster, 0.35-m refl., seq: GSC); 02 21.885 UT, 14.7 (T. Vanmunster, 0.35-m refl., seq: GSC); 02 21.890 UT, 14.8: (G. Poyner, 0.40-m refl.); 02 21.894 UT, 14.8 (E. Broens, 0.35-m refl., seq: GSC); CVC 27 (Belgian Astronomical Society) Guy M Hurst
