------------------------------------------------------------------- THE ASTRONOMER Electronic Circular No 961 1995 May 27 17.50UT Ed:Guy M Hurst, 16,Westminster Close, Kempshott Rise, Basingstoke, Hants, RG22 4PP,England. Telephone/FAX(0256)471074 Int:+44256471074 INTERNET: GUY@TAHQ.DEMON.CO.UK GMH at AST.STAR.RL.AC.UK ------------------------------------------------------------------- TU LEONIS = (8) FLORA L. Schmadel, Astronomisches Rechen-Institut, Heidelberg; P.Schmeer, Bischmisheim; and F. Borngen, Thuringer Landessternwarte, Tautenburg, write that the presumed variability of TU Leo (R.A. = 9h27m.0, Decl. = +21o37', equinox 1950.0; suspected U-Gem type) seems to be entirely attributed to the single observation of an apparent brightening to B = 11 from its normal state as a G-type star of B = 15. They note that this observation, made at the Moscow Observatory on 1917 Mar. 25.8 UT, was evidently of the minor planet (8) Flora, which would then have been within 1' of the star. IAUC 6174 V1057 CYGNI Further to the reported fade of this FU Ori-type variable on E953, E-chart on E954 and follow up results on E955, further observations suggest the star is now brightening: May 7.051, 13.0 (Tonny Vanmunster, Belgium); 9.009, 12.4 (Gary Poyner, Birmingham, UK); 10.054, 13.0 (Vanmunster); 18.937, 12.5 (Vanmunster); 21.051, 12.7 (Vanmunster); 21.909, 12.8 (L.Jensen, Denmark); 23.583, 12.8 (Yasuto Takenaka, Japan); 23.955, 12.7 (Jensen). E-CIRCULARS We are delighted to announce that a recent test message, set by Nick James to avoid the long mailing name headers appearing, was successful. Some observers have since asked for the list from time to time and we can provide this via e-mail on request but only to paid-up members who subscribe to this service. Guy M Hurst
