Its position is about 31" east and 54" south from the nucleus. Approx magnitude is 16.5. The CCD image was obtained on May 21.45232 U.T. with a 4 min. exposure. In response to an alert issued by 'The Astronomer' (=Q1996/032) images and confirmation of the new object have been received from: May 25.90 UT, 14 mins 0.26-m SC + CCD Mark Armstrong, Rolvenden, UK May 25.92 UT, 4x40sec 0.50-m refl. + CCD David Strange, Worth Maltravers, UK May 25.96 UT, 160secs 0.30-m refl. + CCD Terry Platt, Binfield, UK The editor notes that the object is not present on the Carnegie Atlas of Galaxies Panel 289. The object, of magnitude approx 17, is located at: RA 14h53m59.7s DEC +03 31'42"(2000) Spectral confirmation as to whether the object is a supernova is awaited. Guy M Hurst
