------------------------------------------------------------------- THE ASTRONOMER Electronic Circular No 1095 1996 July 09 18.37UT Ed:Guy M Hurst, 16,Westminster Close, Kempshott Rise, Basingstoke, Hants, RG22 4PP,England.Telephone/FAX(01256)471074Int:+441256471074 INTERNET: GUY@TAHQ.DEMON.CO.UK GMH at AST.STAR.RL.AC.UK WORLD WIDE WEB http://www.demon.co.uk/astronomer ------------------------------------------------------------------- VAR 21 CRB Since the announcement on E1085 of the discovery of Var 21 CrB by S.V.Antipin, the Editor has received several reports of the object in outburst, usually accompanied by a note that the position on the TA chart (E1085 and VSC 64) was considerably in error. It was clear from an examination of the Palomar Sky Survey field that objects reported as Var 21 CrB were merely normal field stars. We have today, at last, received IBVS 4343 and can confirm that the identification on the TA chart agrees with that provided by the discoverer in the chart on IBVS. In addition there was a report by M.Iida of Nagano, Japan, that an object at the position reported on IBVS 4343 had been recorded bright on June 26.5UT near magnitude 15.5. If anyone has an image of this outburst the Editor would appreciate receiving a file so that the identification of this new eruptive can be settled without further queries. V482 CYGNI Gary Poyner, Birmingham, UK reported on June 26 that his recent results suggest this R CrB-type variable might be fading: June 2.99UT, 10.9; 12.99, 11.0; 15.006, 11.1; 18.00, 11.2; 22.98, 11.4; 24.98, 11.6. Results from Kiss, Gill, Biesmans June 24-27 suggest an average magnitude of 11.5. It is therefore not clear whether this represents a full fade and observers are urged to monitor the variable carefully and to report any further activity to the Editor. Guy M Hurst
