On 1996 Oct 16.784UT he estimated it at mag 12.7 whereas it was not seen to a limit of 14.3 on Oct 15.766UT. (0.40-m reflector, visual). Tonny Vanmunster, Belgium, reports in CVC 112 that he has confirmed the outburst using 0.25-m Schmidt-Cassgerain plus CCD with no filter. On 1996 Oct 16.787UT he estimated it at mag 12.0. He adds that the last major brightening was detected on 1990 Sept 27 at mag 9.1. Eric Broens, Belgium also has confirmed the outburst on 1996 Oct 16.818UT at 11.6. SUPERNOVA 1996bk IN NGC 5308 The object reported on E1133 has now been designated as above by the Central Bureau following spectral confirmation. John Mackey responded to the TA alert by imaging the object and obtaining astrometry: 1996 Oct 13.79549UT RA 13h46m57.98s DEC +60 58'12.9"(2000) mag V=14.5 (after subtraction of the galaxy background). Further estimates: 1996 15.77UT, 14.1v (Poyner); 16.78, 14.2v (Poyner); 16.82, V=14.3 (M.Mobberley, 0.49-m reflector + CCD + V).
