R. Treffers, C. Y. Peng, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California at Berkeley; and M. W. Richmond, Princeton University, report the discovery on Apr. 15 UT of a supernova (R = 17.0 +/- 0.2) located about 13" west and 67" south of the nucleus of NGC 3627 (R.A. = 11h20m15s.1, Decl. = +12o59'22", equinox 2000.0). This is the first supernova found as part of the Lick Observatory Supernova Search (the direct successor of the former search at Leuschner Observatory), which is conducted with the fully automated 0.8-m Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope. An Apr. 10 frame (limiting mag 17.6) shows no image at the location of SN 1997bs. IAUC 6627 (extract) SUPERNOVA 1997bt IN ANONYMOUS GALAXY D. Hardin reports her discovery, as part of the EROS team's systematic CCD search with the European Southern Observatory's Marly 1-m telescope, of a supernova (V about 19.5) on Mar. 31, located 0".3 east and 0".3 south of the centre of a galaxy at R.A. = 11h06m15s.1, Decl. = -11o36'25" (2000). No object was present at the position of the supernova on a CCD frame taken on Feb. 13. IAUC 6628 (extract) SUPERNOVA 1997bq IN NGC 3147 E. Waagen, AAVSO, reports the following photometry by R.Zissell (South Hadley, MA) for SN 1997bq (found by Stephen Laurie:Ed) on Apr. 15.237 UT: B = 14.68 +/- 0.09, V = 14.65 +/- 0.05, R = 14.58 +/- 0.04, I = 14.58 +/- 0.04. Zissell made an independent discovery of this object. Visual magnitude estimate by S. Pesci, Milan, Italy: Apr. 12.8 UT, 14.8. IAUC 6629 (extract) Gary Poyner, Birmingham, England, also e-mails a further visual magnitude estimate: 1997 Apr 9.903UT, 15.9 (GSC) 0.40-m refl. Guy M Hurst
