Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports that A. Sugie and A. Nakamura have independently recovered comet P/1990 R1 (= 1990j = 1990 XXIV) as shown below. The indicated correction to the prediction by K. Muraoka on MPC 23484 is Delta T = -0.26 day. 1997 UT R.A. Chan at the Mount Stromlo 1.27-m telescope (+ Macho Camera). SN 1997cv is located at R.A. = 13h35m20s.77, Decl. = -34d12'11".6 (equinox 2000.0) apparently in a large spiral galaxy near Abell 3565. A nearby star has position end figures 26s.38, 11'46".6. SN 1997cv was also present, and comparably bright, on similar frames taken on July 10, but it is not visible on images taken on June 10. IAUC 6698 (extract) SUPERNOVA 1997cw IN NGC 105 Q.-y. Qiao, Y.-l. Qiu, W.-d. Li, W. Zhou and J.-y. Hu, on behalf of the Beijing Astronomical Observatory (BAO) Supernova Survey, report the discovery of a supernova of mag about 16.5 on an unfiltered CCD frame taken on July 10.79 UT with the BAO 0.60-m reflector. A confirming image obtained on July 11.70 shows the object at mag about 16.4. SN 1997cw is located at R.A. = 0h25m17s.27, Decl. = +12d53'06".2 (equinox 2000.0), which is 7".6 east and 4".2 north of the nucleus of NGC 105. An unfiltered CCD frame taken on 1996 Nov. 3 (limiting mag around 19.0) shows no star at this position. IAUC 6699 (extract) SUPERNOVA 1997cx IN NGC 3057 (=Q1997/044) Further to our initial alert designated Q1997/044: Michael Schwartz, Cottage Grove, OR, reports his discovery of a supernova (mag about 15) located about 20" south of the centre of NGC 3057 (R.A. = 10h05m.7, Decl. = +80o17', equinox 2000.0) on a CCD image taken with the 0.35-m automated Tenagra Observatory supernova patrol telescope on July 12.33 UT (with a confirming image taken an hour later). S. Jha, P. Garnavich, P. Challis, and R. Kirshner, Harvard- Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, report that a spectrogram taken by P. Berlind at the Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope on July 14.2 UT indicates that SN 1997cx is a type-II supernova past maximum, showing P-Cyg Balmer lines, He I (587.5 nm), and Fe II.
