During that time please continue to send messages to the Editors mailbox for review upon my return. However where a more immediate answer is needed or in the case of a potential discovery please also send a copy of your message to Martin Mobberley who will handle matters during my absence. Sabine with the Mt.Stromlo 1.27-m telescope (+ Macho Camera). SN 1997cy is located on a faint host galaxy near Abell 3266 at R.A. = 4h32m54s.86, Decl. = -61o42'57".5 (equinox 2000.0). A nearby star has position end figures 59s.27, 43'06".6. SN 1997cy is not visible on images taken on Mar. 12 (limiting mag R = 20.5). A V CCD frame taken on July 22 by D. Baines and J. Howard with the Mt. Stromlo 0.76-m telescope shows that SN 1997cy had faded by 0.5 mag. IAUC 6706 SUPERNOVA 1997cz IN ANONYMOUS GALAXY The Mount Stromlo Abell Cluster Supernova Search Team reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (V = 20.5) on V and R CCD images taken on July 19 by S. Sabine at the Mount Stromlo 1.27-m telescope (+ Macho Camera). SN 1997cz is located near Abell 3565 at R.A. = 13h37m09s.39, Decl. = -33o47'31".9 (equinox 2000.0). A nearby star has position end figures 13s.08, 36".4. SN 1997cz was also present at approximately the same magnitude on similar V and R frames taken on July 21 and June 10, but it is not visible on images taken on Apr. 26 (limiting mag R = 21). IAUC 6708 THE ASTRONOMER 1997 AGM This event will take place on Saturday October 11 in Basingstoke. Provisionally speakers include Mark Armstrong and Stephen Laurie who will discuss the first ever English supernova discoveries, and also Mark Kidger (Comet Hale-Bopp) and Denis Buczynski (new automated telescope). Please BOOK NOW. Cost L6.00 (6 pounds) for all day admission plus tea and coffee. Optional cooked luncheon is additional L7.00 (7 pounds). Send remittances to the Editor. Guy M Hurst
