The star has been found to be NSV 1665, a suspected variable found by Otto Morgenroth reported in Astron. Nach.,vol.268, columns 273-6 (1939). A search of the Guide Star Catalog also shows this to be: GSC 3354.0049, V=11.53 located at:RA 04h37m29s DEC +51 45'30"(2000) On photos by Collins of 1997 Oct 28.9UT it was estimated at mag 11.6 whereas on 1989 Nov 29.9UT it was magnitude 12.2. The Editor finds the object on RealSky at mag 11.2 based on a Palomar red plate of 1953 Oct 8. A photo by Jack Grills for the patrol of 1982 Jan 27 has the object at mag 12.2 (135mm Tri-X). The object is faint on Atlas Stellarum (1969 Mar 8) near 14.0B. Maza, Department of Astronomy, University of Chile, reports the discovery of a supernova (B about 18.5) by Roberto Antezana on a plate taken by L. Gonzalez using the Maksutov telescope at Cerro El Roble on Nov. 25.246 UT. SN 1997eh is located at R.A. = 5h49m04s.59, Decl. = -24o29'01".6 (equinox 2000.0), which is 6".4 west and 0".8 north of the nucleus of its host galaxy. Confirming images of the supernova were obtained by E. Costa (University of Chile) via a CCD frame taken with the Cerro Tololo (CTIO) 1.5-m telescope and by Gonzalez at Cerro El Roble, both on Nov. 27.25. IAUC 6795 SUPERNOVA 1997ei IN NGC 3963 S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports a discovery by M. Aoki of an apparent supernova (mag 16.5) on six frames taken on Dec. 23 (limiting mag about 18.0) with a 0.43-m f/6 refl. (+ unfiltered CCD) and confirmed on three frames taken on Dec. 24. SN 1997ei is located at R.A. = 11h54m59s.98, Decl. = +58o29'26".4 (2000.0), which is 10" east and 10" south of the centre of NGC 3963. IAUC 6795 Guy M Hurst e and by Gonzalez at Cerro El Roble, both on Nov. 27g hours here in Massachusetts. This complete automation also extends to the preparation of the files for MPCUPDATE and MPCAT. It is anticipated that the first "daily orbit update" MPEC will be issued as MPEC 1997-Y01 approximately nine hours from now. Brian G. Marsden Gareth V.
