SN 1998X is located 23".8 +/- 1" west and 3".1 +/- 1" south of the centre of NGC 6754 (R.A. = 19h11m.4, Decl. = -50o39', equinox 2000.0). IAUC 6847 (extract) NOVA SAGITTARII 1998 S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, forwards the following position and magnitude for this object from Y. Kushida, Yatsugatake South Base Observatory (0.40-m f/6 reflector), from an image obtained on Mar. 23.771 UT: R.A. = 18h21m40s.47, Decl. = -27o31'38".0 (2000) V = 8.1. (IAUC 6847 extract) M. Della Valle, Astronomy Department, Padua University; and A.Pizzella and M. Bernardi, European Southern Observatory, report: "Preliminary analysis of a spectrum of N Sgr 1998, obtained at La Silla with the 1.54-m Danish telescope (+ Danish Faint Object Spectrograph and Camera; range 370-760 nm, resolution about 1 nm) on Mar. 24.3 UT, confirms this object to be a galactic nova caught during an early stage.
