A confirmatory observation was made by Gary Poyner of Birmingham on 1998 July 13.006 at visual magnitude 12.3. Differences between the sequences of the AAVSO and BAAVSS appear to explain the discrepancy in the above reports. R.Modic, USA has now reported a second outburst after the star had apparently faded from sight: 1998 July 24.078, 15.1 (Gary Poyner) 25.324, [16.0 (R.Modic) 27.431, [15.3 (G.Hanson, USA 0.46-m refl.) 28.351, 13.4 (R.Modic, 0.50-m refl.) Further observations are urgently required. SUPERNOVAE 1998cy, 1998cz, 1998da, 1998db, 1998dc N. Regnault and O. Perdereau, Laboratoire de l'Accelerateur Lineaire, Universite de Paris-Sud, on behalf of the EROS collaboration, report the discovery of five apparent supernovae discovered in the course of their automated supernova search with the 1-m Marly telescope (+ two 1-deg^2 CCD cameras) at the European Southern Observatory: SN Date UT R.A. Maza, Department of Astronomy, University of Chile, reports the discovery by R. Antezana, on a T-Max 400 film taken by L. E. Gonzalez with the Maksutov telescope at Cerro El Roble on July 18.058 UT, of an apparent supernova (B about 17) located at R.A. = 13h47m33s.95, Decl. = -33o02'31".4 (equinox 2000.0), which is 2".8 east and 2".5 north of the nucleus of a ringed spiral galaxy. SN 1998dd was confirmed on a film taken by Gonzalez using the same telescope on July 19.133. No star is visible at this position on a film obtained on June 18.139 (B > 20). IAUC 6974 Guy M Hurst
