Coordinates of the central graze track are listed below. The graze takes place largely along the dark limb of a 61% illuminated waning Moon. The Moon will be quite high in the skyCan (27-29 deg alt). Observers are encouraged to travel near to the graze track and to begin observing about five minutes before the time listed for the particular location chosen. The track passes near Poole, Winchester, Aldershot, Staines, Epping, Braintree, north of Ipswich and south of Lowestoft. Where possible a video record should be attempted and the camera should also record a time signal before and after the event whilst the camera is still running. Visually, the grazing occultation should be capable of being timed visually using a telescope having a 6cm aperture or larger. The star may disappear and reappear several times during the course of the graze, each event should be timed if possible. A tape recorder would also be helpful - again time signals should be recorded whilst the tape is still running. Observers should select geographical positions such that they are scattered up to 1 km or so north of the central track, and up to 5 km south of the central track rather than always be exactly on the track, so as to adequately map out the profile of the lunar limb on the basis of the timings made. Observation reports should be sent to myself and to Andrew Elliott, the BAA Lunar Occultation Coordinator. Central Track for Graze of Gamma Tauri (V=3.65) U.T.
