His observation of the outburst related to an object at location 'A'. This was the first outburst of this star detected by Gary after monitoring it for several years. CATACLYSMIC VARIABLE IN PEGASUS M. Modjaz, E. Halderson, T. Shefler, J. Y. King, M. Papenkova, W. D. Li, R. R. Treffers, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California at Berkeley, report their discovery of a variable star (probably a cataclysmic variable) in our own galaxy during the course of the Lick Observatory Supernova Search with the 0.8-m Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope (KAIT). The variable star was found and confirmed on unfiltered images taken on Sept. 24.3 UT (mag about 18.4) and 25.3 UT (mag about 16.3), respectively. The object is located at: R.A. = 23h54m39s.19, Decl.= +28o22'49".7 (2000). A KAIT image of the same field obtained on Sept. 21.3 shows nothing at the position of the variable star (limiting mag about 19.2), nor does the Digitized Sky Survey image of the field shows anything in this position. IAUC 7021 (extract) SUPERNOVA 1998ec IN UGC 3576 Y. L. Qiu, Q. Y. Qiao, and J. Y. Hu, Beijing Astronomical Observatory (BAO), report their discovery of an apparent supernova in the course of the BAO Supernova Survey with the 0.6-m telescope at Xinglong Station. The new star is located at R.A. = 6h53m06s.11, Decl. = +50o02'22".1 (2000), which is 8".7 west and 19".5 north of the centre of UGC 3576. The object was found and confirmed on unfiltered CCD images taken on Sept. 26.82 and 27.83UT that show nearly identical magnitudes of 16.9. CCD frames taken on Mar. 22 show no star at the position of the supernova (limiting mag about 18.5).
