SUPERNOVA 1998ey IN NGC 7080
Ron Arbour, South Wonston, Hants, U.K., reports his discovery, on
an unfiltered CCD image taken on Dec. 5.816 UT with a 0.3-m f/6.3
Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector in the course of his supernova
patrol, of an apparent supernova (mag about 17.0) located at:
R.A. = 21h30m00s.56, Decl. = +26o43'24".2 (2000), which is about
18" west and 20" north of the centre of NGC 7080.  A prediscovery
image of the new star appears on a frame taken by Arbour on Dec.
4.651, but it is not visible on frames taken Nov. 1 or earlier
(limiting mag about 17.5).  The new object is not present in
Vicker's atlas or the second Digitized Sky Survey.  M. Schwartz,
Cottage Grove, OR, obtained an image of SN 1998ey at mag about
16.5 on Dec. 8.108, using the Tenagra I telescope in Sonoita, AZ.
