SUPERNOVA 1999cb IN MARKARIAN 421
Bjorn Granslo, Norway e-mailed TA earlier today with news that Odd
Trondal of Oslo had recorded a suspected supernova in Markarian 881
on 1999 Apr 4.11UT at magnitude 16.1. The object, located 15" south
west of the centre of the galaxy, was subsequently recorded on a
series of unfiltered CCD images on Apr 10.05, 15.7; May 1.06, 16.8;
May 6.00, 17.0.

R.J.Irgens and H.Holen using the Nordic Optical Telescope on
La Palma confirmed its presence on May 9.88UT at V=17.9 (reduction
by Granslo).

Bjorn Granslo provides a precise position:

RA 16h25m48.41s DEC +40 20'32.4"(2000)
which places the star 11" west and 10" south of the centre of the
galaxy.
