Appeals were e-mailed to the checking team for confirmation and Dan Green at CBAT advised of our investigation. On Oct 16 during the day an e-mail was received from Weidong Li detailing an independent discovery enabling CBAT to issue the following circular: Guy M. Hurst, Basingstoke, England, reports the discovery by Mark Armstrong, Rolvenden, of an apparent supernova (mag 17.5) on unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag 19.5) taken with a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope in the course of the U.K. Nova/ Supernova Patrol on Oct. 13.058, 13.914, and 14.019 UT. SN 2000dt is located at R.A. = 6h10m54s.68, Decl. = +62o01'27".2 (2000), which is 2" west and 16" north of the centre of UGC 3411. The new object appears neither on a CCD image taken by Armstrong on Sept. 21 (limiting mag 19.5), nor on the following Palomar Sky Survey images: 1990 Jan. 1 (red, limiting mag 20.8); 1993 Oct. 12 and Dec. 6 (blue, limiting mag 22.5); and 1996 Oct. 16 and Dec. 2 (red, limiting mag 20.8). Y. Sato and W. D. Li, University of California at Berkeley, on behalf of the Lick Observatory Supernova Search, report their independent discovery of SN 2000dt with the 0.8-m Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope (KAIT) on unfiltered images taken on Oct. 14.4 (mag about 17.8) and 15.4 UT (mag about 17.9), providing position end figures 54s.68, 27".4 (or 1".3 west and 15".0 north of the nucleus of UGC 3411). IAUC 7508 (extract) Congratulations to Mark on this further success!: editor SUPERNOVA 2000ds IN NGC 2768 T. Puckett and G. Dowdle, Mountain Town, GA, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.9) on an unfiltered CCD frame (limiting mag 19.9) taken with the Puckett Observatory 0.60-m automated supernova patrol telescope on Oct. 10.40 UT. SN 2000ds is located at R.A. = 9h11m36s.24, Decl. = +60o01'42".2 (2000), which is 9".1 west and 32".1 south of the centre of NGC 2768. The new object was also present on an unfiltered CCD frame taken on Oct. 11.38, and it appeared at mag 18.1 on a frame taken on Oct. 12.34. SN 2000ds does not appear on unfiltered images taken by Puckett during 2000 Jan. 6-May 28, and it does not appear on Palomar Sky Survey images taken on 1996 Mar. 17 (limiting mag about 21.0) and on 1995 Feb. 5 (limiting mag about 21.0).
