                           GEORGE ALCOCK
It is with great regret that we must inform you that George Alcock
passed away in hospital yesterday, December 15. He was 88.

Kay Williams, author of 'Under an English Heaven', a book devoted
to George's life and quite remarkable achievements, advises us
that the funeral is at 3.00pm on Friday December 22 at
Peterborough Crematorium. A memorial service is to be held in his
beloved cathedral some weeks later.

Within a few words it is impossible to summarise George's
achievements except to say, that in this editor's opinion,
he was one of the greatest international observers and astronomers
I have ever had the privilege to meet.
