B. Aazami and W. D. Li, University of California at Berkeley, on behalf of LOTOSS, report the discovery with the 0.8-m Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope (KAIT) of an apparent supernova on unfiltered images taken on Jan. 21.4 (mag about 17.5) and 22.4 UT (mag about 17.7). SN 2001M is located at: R.A. = 10h24m31s.48, Decl. = -21o47'40".6 (2000), which is 12".3 east and 12".7 south of the nucleus of NGC 3240. A KAIT image of the same field taken on Jan. 3.4 showed nothing at this position (limiting mag about 19.0). IAUC 7568 SUPERNOVA 2001N IN NGC 3327 Li also reports the discovery by R. Chornock of an apparent supernova on unfiltered KAIT images taken on Jan. 21.4 (mag about 16.3) and 22.4 UT (mag about 16.2). SN 2001N is located at R.A. = 10h39m58s.08, Decl. = +24o05'26".0 (2000), which is 1".8 east and 2".7 south of the nucleus of NGC 3327. The photometry and astrometry of the new object were measured after subtracting a KAIT image of the same field taken on Jan. 1.4, which showed nothing at the position of the new object (limiting mag about 19.0). IAUC 7568 SUPERNOVA 2001G IN MCG +08-17-43 A. Gal-Yam and O. Shemmer, Tel Aviv University, report: "A spectrum (range 400-780 nm), obtained with the Wise Observatory 1-m telescope (+ FOSC spectrograph) on Jan. 16 by J. Dann, reveals that SN 2001G is of type Ia, near maximum brightness. We estimate a redshift of 0.015 from the supernova's broad features." IAUC 7569 Editor: This was the discovery by Mark Armstrong reported on E1600/E1601. The galaxy's name has been corrected from that quoted on IAUC 7569. SUPERNOVA 2001K IN IC 677 The independent discovery by Mark Armstrong reported on E1602 has now also appeared on IAUC 7569. POTENTIAL VIRUS, ASTROMAX? Sky and Telescope have confirmed that the file mentioned on E1603 is indeed a virus and they apologise for any disruption caused to PC's. They indicate that their routine bulletin was 'intercepted' and replaced with the virus. EUROCHEQUES We are advised by our bankers that Eurocheques can no longer be accepted for renewals and other payments. By agreement amongst European countries, this service has been discontinued. It is possible to send us either a sterling cheque drawn on the London branch of a Bank or funds can be sent direct to our bank account. Details of the latter are available by contacting our secretary, Peter Meadows. Guy M Hurst
