Maciez Reszelski confirms the outburst on Feb 24.144UT at 14.3v. Taichi Kato, Japan adds that the last recorded outburst was on 2000 May 15 and detected by Tonny Vanmunster. However the magnitudes reported for the current outburst appear to be brighter than the maximum of 15.1 quoted in the GCVS and the star clearly requires close monitoring over the next few days. COMET C/2001 C1 (LINEAR) L. Manguso, Lincoln Laboratory, reports the discovery of an apparent comet by LINEAR. Confirming CCD observations by G. Hug (Eskridge, KS) reveal a condensed coma and a suggestion of a faint, broad tail in p.a. about 325 deg. Available astrometry: 2001 UT R.A.
