Hurst, Basingstoke, England, reports the discovery by Mark Armstrong (Rolvenden, Kent) of a supernova (mag about 17.5) on an unfiltered CCD image taken on July 22.023 UT in the course of the U.K. Nova/Supernova Patrol. SN 2001dg is located at R.A. = 22h10m13s.28, Decl. = +36o39'14".2 (equinox 2000.0), as determined from a follow-up image obtained on July 23.024, when the new object appeared at similar brightness; this is 19" west and 3" south of the centre of CGCG 513-10. No stellar object appears at this location on Armstrong's image of the galaxy from 2000 Sept. 23 (limiting mag about 19.0). R. Arbour (South Wonston, Hampshire) confirmed the presence of the new object on an exposure taken on July 22.908. T. Matheson, S. Jha, P. Challis, and R. Kirshner, Harvard- Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, report that a spectrum of SN 2001dg, obtained by P. Berlind on July 24.40 UT with the Mt. Hopkins 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST spectrograph), shows it to be a type-II supernova near maximum light. The spectrum exhibits a blue continuum with P-Cyg lines of hydrogen. Adopting the NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database recession velocity of 6143 km/s for the host galaxy, the expansion velocity derived from the minimum of the H-beta line is about 8600 km/s. IAUC 7670 Editor: additionally Gordon Rogers also provided images obtained on 2001 July 23 with the 0.40-m Schmidt-Cassegrain by way of confirmation. The object is seen clearly superimposed on a structural knot of the galaxy. Congratulations to Mark on this further success. SUPERNOVA 2001df IN MCG -04-51-5 P. Martin, M. Modjaz, and W. D. Li, University of California at Berkeley, report the discovery by LOTOSS of an apparent supernova (mag about 18.0) in unfiltered images taken with the Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope (KAIT) on June 25.4, July 11.4, and July 18.4 UT. An image taken on June 16.5 under poor conditions also showed a hint of the new object. SN 2001df is located at R.A. = 21h39m18s.15, Decl. = -25o29'36".0 (2000), which is 5".0 east and 3".4 north of the nucleus of MCG -04-51-5. IAUC 7667 V2274 CYGNI = NOVA CYGNI 2001 N. N. Samus, Institute of Astronomy, Moscow, informs us that the designation V2274 Cyg has been given to this nova. Editor: This object is being seriously under-observed despite being well placed. We welcome more observations and will be updating the sequence shortly. In the meantime please ensure the full estimate is submitted for possible later re-reduction. SUPERNOVA 2001dh IN MCG -6-44-26 R. Chassagne, Ste. Clotilde, Ile de Reunion, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag about 15.5) on unfiltered CCD images taken on July 22.88 and 24.85 UT with a 0.3-m reflector. The new object is located at R.A. = 20h17m24s.16, Decl. = -38o40'37".4 (2000), which is 38".7 east and 11".2 south of the nucleus of MCG -6-44-26 (= ESO 340-G9). IAUC 7670 Guy M Hurst
