Mark Armstrong also imaged the suspect at Tom Boles' request. Tom went on to obtain a 240 integration the next night enabling the following IAUC announcement to be made: Guy M. Hurst, Basingstoke, England, reports the discovery by Tom Boles (Coddenham, England) of an apparent supernova (mag 18.3) on eight unfiltered CCD frames (limiting mag 19.0-19.5) secured between Aug. 27.970 and 28.125 UT for the U.K. Nova/Supernova Patrol with a 0.36-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. The new object is located at R.A. = 0h44m43s.15, Decl. = +45o25'10".4 (2000), which is 13" east and 7" south of the centre of UGC 471. In response to an appeal from the discoverer, M. Armstrong (Rolvenden, England) also imaged SN 2001dz on Aug. 28.031, and Boles found the star at mag 18.0 on another image taken on Aug. 28.940 (which produced position end figures 43s.11, 10".6). SN 2001dz was absent from a master image taken by Boles on July 25 (limiting mag 19.0), and it is not present on second Palomar Sky Survey blue and red images from 1989. IAUC 7696/7699 Our congratulations to Tom on this further success:editor SUPERNOVA 2001dx IN PGC 63222 W. D. Li, University of California at Berkeley, reports the discovery by LOTOSS of an apparent supernova (mag about 17.2) in unfiltered images taken with the Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope (KAIT) on Aug. 26.3 and 27.3 UT. The new object is located at R.A. = 19h27m16s.83, Decl. = +65o18'58".8 (2000), which is 5".4 west of the nucleus of PGC 63222. IAUC 7692 (extract) SUPERNOVA 2001dy IN MCG +04-40-16 T. Puckett and M. Marcus, Mountain Town, GA, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 18.0) on an unfiltered CCD frame (limiting mag 19.4) taken with the Puckett Observatory 0.30-m automated patrol telescope on Aug. 27.12 UT. SN 2001dy is located at R.A. = 17h04m59s.42, Decl. = +23o10'06".2 (2000), which is 5".9 west and 2".8 south of the centre of MCG +04-40-16. The new object was confirmed on CCD frames taken on Aug. 28.07 by Puckett with a 0.60-m reflector. IAUC 7693 (extract) V4739 SAGITTARII = NOVA SAGITTARII 2001 No. 2 N. N. Samus, Institute of Astronomy, Moscow, advises that the designation V4739 Sgr has been given to the nova reported on The Astronomer E-Circular 1678. K. Takamizawa, Saku-machi, Nagano, Japan, reports prediscovery limiting magnitudes (nova not detected) from unfiltered T-Max 400 films: Aug. 24.477 UT, [12.1; 24.480, [12.1. SUPERNOVA 2001ea IN MCG +05-54-38 B. A. Beutler and W. D. Li, University of California at Berkeley, report the discovery by LOTOSS of an apparent supernova (mag about 18.2) in unfiltered images taken with the Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope (KAIT) on Aug. 28.4 and 29.4 UT. The new object is located at R.A. = 23h08m04s.68, Decl. = +28o34'06".1 (2000), which is 10".3 east and 4".2 south of the nucleus of MCG +05-54-38. IAUC 7696 (extract) Guy M Hurst
