V844 HERCULIS (Q2001/252)
Chris Jones, Laindon, England, reports his detection of a rare
outburst of the SU UMa-type dwarf nova V844 Her with the 0.46-m
reflector. The last outburst occurred in 2000 July (superoutburst).

Visual estimates:
2001 Aug 30.149 <14.5, R. J. Modic; Aug 31.846, 13.8 Chris  Jones;
Aug. 31.944, 12.8 Chris Jones.

The outburst was confirmed by Mike Simonsen (USA) on Sept. 1.999UT
at visual magnitude 12.2. (0.25-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope).

We apologise for the delayed announcement evidently due to the loss
of an e-mail in transmission to TA HQ.

TITANIA OCCULTATION ON 2001 SEPTEMBER 8
J.Lecacheux reports on the Planetary Occultation Newsgroup that
this occultation (cf E-Circular 1683) was successfully observed.
>From an intensified video recording with the 1-metre telescope of
Pic du Midi, they obtained a 57.0 sec. chord at Titania ground
level. The immersion lasted 0.4 sec. and emersion 0.2 sec. (rough
estimations). So the total duration of the phenomenon was 57.6 sec.

Readers of these circulars are reminded that the deadline for the
discounted admission rate to the AGM has now passed and the
standard charge of L7.50 (seven pounds fifty pence) now applies.
A revised booking form can be found on our WWW pages.

It would be appreciated if any remaining bookings could be sent in
as soon as possible particularly for those requiring the optional
luncheon (extra charge L7.00) for which the deadline is September
15.
