After recording it on Oct 9, Tom again imaged it on the morning of Oct 16 and Mark Armstrong also obtained a confirmatory image. There was initially some difficulty in obtaining very accurate astrometry but since the issue of the IAU circular below, Mark has reported improved astrometry using ASTROMETRICA: Toms image RA 03h 13m 07.46s DEC +42o 26' 15.8" Mag 17.51 Mark's image RA 03h 13m 07.40s DEC +42o 26' 15.2" Mag 17.8 Anon gal RA 03h 13m 06.95s DEC +42o 26' 15.7" Guy M. Hurst, Basingstoke, England, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17) by Tom Boles, Coddenham, England, on a 30-s unfiltered CCD frame (limiting mag 18.5) taken with a 0.36-m telescope on Oct. 9.133 UT in the course of the U.K. Nova/Supernova Patrol. SN 2001ew is located at R.A. = 3h13m06s.98, Decl. = +42o26'15".1 (equinox 2000.0), which is 5" east of the nucleus of its host galaxy. Mark Armstrong, Rolvenden, England, reports the following position end figures measured from a confirming unfiltered CCD image taken with a 0.36-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope on Oct. 16.163: 07s.46, 14".9. Another image obtained by Boles on Oct. 16.057 suggests that the object may have brightened slightly. A master image by Boles taken on Aug. 28 did not show the new object to limiting mag 18.5. An image taken by Armstrong on 2000 Oct. 6 also shows nothing at the position of SN 2001ew. IAUC 7734 Our congratulations to Tom: editor. SUPERNOVA 2001eu IN ANONYMOUS GALAXY G. Miknaitis, Astronomy Department, University of Washington, reports the detection of an apparent supernova (g' about 19.4, r' about 20.4) by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) in images taken with the SDSS 2.5-m telescope on Sept. 21.9 UT. SN 2001eu, which was also found in images taken on Sept. 19.9 and 21.9, is located at R.A. = 2h37m58s.80, Decl. = -1 01'40".1 (equinox 2000.0), which is 1" west and 1" south of the nucleus of a galaxy having position end figures 58s.89, 39".1. IAUC 7731 (extract) SUPERNOVA 2001ev IN UGC 2653 M. Papenkova and W. D. Li, University of California at Berkeley, report the discovery by LOTOSS of an apparent supernova (mag about 18.8) in unfiltered images taken with the Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope (KAIT) on Oct. 11.5 and 12.3 UT. SN 2001ev is located at R.A. = 3h18m39s.04, Decl. = +37o36'31".8 (equinox 2000.0), which is 8".6 east and 2".5 north of the nucleus of UGC 2653. IAUC 7732 (extract) Guy M Hurst
