The position of the new object derived by Puckett is: RA 09h 34m 37.60s DEC +05 50' 15.7" (2000), placing it 16.0"W and 13.6"S of the nucleus. Li has end figures: RA 37.54s DEC 15.7". The first definite recording of the object was on an image of 2002 Feb 8 by Li with the supernova at about magnitude 17.7. SUPERNOVA 2002av in ESO 489-G007 Michael Schwartz (USA) and Weidong Li (LOTOSS) have recorded a magnitude 17.7 object with the 0.5-m Tenagra III automated telescope in images of Feb 8 and Feb 9. The location is: RA 06h 08m 06.34s DEC -23 59' 13.2" (2000), 10.8"E and 17.7"N of ESO 489-G007. Further details are on IAUC 7823. SUPERNOVA 2002ap IN MESSIER 74 Arne Henden has revised the sequence for this object and an updated TA chart to (B) format was sent on CSN 108. This will shortly be updated on the TA WWW site for charts. Please use the new sequence for further reports which are still needed on a daily basis in view of the considerable interest shown in this object by professional astronomers. Alex Filippenko has added on IAUC 7825 that analysis of a further spectrum of this object of Feb 11 with the Shane 3-m reflector at Lick Observatory reveals that it is very similar to the peculiar type-Ic SN 1997ef ('hypernova'), two weeks after maximum.
