He estimated the approximate offsets from the nucleus as 16"W and 12"S. It was not present on Ron's image of Apr. 5.200UT and is also absent from Palomar Sky Survey II. Tom Boles, Coddenham, England obtained confirmation on exposures of Apr. 10.909UT and Apr. 11.863UT and provided the following position: RA 08h 33m 22.1s DEC +29 32' 01" (2000). Tom Matheson et. Al., has reported on IAUC 7875 that a spectrum by P. Berlind of Apr. 12.18UT with the 1.5-m Whipple Observatory telescope, shows that the object is of type II then near maximum. Our congratulations to Ron on this further success. SUPERNOVA 2002cd IN NGC 6916 The object found by Mark Armstrong and reported on TA E-Circular 1763 has been spectroscopically confirmed as a type Ia supernova before maximum according to a report by Tom Matheson et. al. on IAU Circular 7873. They add that the spectrum, obtained by M. Calkins on Apr 10 with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope, is consistent with a normal Ia, then about ten days before maximum. ROSSIE ATWELL It is with considerable regret that we must advise that Rossie Atwell died on Saturday, April 13. Although her major astronomical contribution was through her work in the BAA office, I know many TA subscribers also knew her well and we extend condolences to her relatives and friends. Guy M Hurst
