The object, located in patrol area 67, was first noted on photographic exposures of 2002 January 15.9UT on Kodak 2415 with a 135mm telephoto lens when the magnitude was estimated to be 12.3. A follow-up image of 2002 February 7.0UT again recorded it but at magnitude 12.8. It was noted that it was not recorded and fainter than magnitude 12.9 on photographs of 1990 January 24.1UT. Nick James imaged the field on 2002 Feb 06.95667 and derived the following position: RA 07h 15m 7.989s +21 35' 22.13" (2000). The object is an S-type star and catalogued in Stephenson's 1984 list as star 321. It is evidently absent from the Guide Star Catalog. Further estimates by Mike Collins: 1989 Oct 6.1UT, 12.7? 1992 Dec 30.0, 12.9; 1993 Oct 17.0, [12.9; 1994 Jan 2.9, [12.4; 1997 Jan 28.9, 12.8? 1997 Dec 28.0, 12.6; 2001 Feb 14.9, [12.9. He adds that a preliminary analysis shows that the ephemeris: JDmax = 2447805+374dxE satisfies all the observed maxima. A chart will shortly be published on the Charts and Sequence Notes service (CSN) and subsequently on our WWW site. Guy M Hurst
