The discovery image was obtained just 5 minutes before cessation of the patrol due to morning twilight. He derived the following position: RA 18h 46m 59.95s DEC +45 42' 20.2" (2000) and estimated the offsets as 1"N and 24"E of the nucleus. Mark was unable to trace the suspect on a master image of 60 seconds duration obtained on 2000 Nov 12 with a similar telescope. He further noted it was absent from POSS-II blue, red and infrared images. Dan Green, Central Bureau, has reported on IAUC 7891 that he received an independent discovery report from the LOTOSS team who recorded the new object on May 5.5 at about magnitude 15.9 whereas on a KAIT image of 2001 October 3.2UT it was fainter than 19.0. The designation of SN 2002cs was therefore announced on the same IAUC. Congratulations to Mark on this latest discovery. Guy M Hurst
