The first detection with the Coddenham A, 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope was made during the course of the UK Nova/Supernova Patrol on 2002 August 2.102UT when the magnitude was 16.5 and the limit was 18.5. Tom derived the following position: RA 02h 26m 08.43s DEC +31 54' 45.4" (2000). The offsets were also measured as 1.0"N and 11.4"W of the galaxy's centre. It was noted the object was absent from Tom's images of 2002 Jan 2 (limit 18.5) and 2001 August 15 (limit 19.0). Further the object could not be seen on Palomar Sky Survey images taken on 1989.825 (red, limit 21.0) and 1987.730 (blue, limit 20.5). The editor noted that according to Guide 8.0, NGC 917 and UGC 1890 were plotted in a similar place and the bibliography notes suggested they might be the same object. Tom Boles successfully re-imaged the object on 2002 Aug 3.003UT and a new astrometric measure confirmed there had been no movement. According to IAUC 7947, a KAIT image showed this object on Aug 1.5UT and the LOTOSS team have therefore announced their independent discovery. Their end figures for the position are: RA 08.45s DEC 45.2" (2000). They also quote offsets of 1.0"N and 9.3"E. Congratulations to Tom on this further success. SUPERNOVA 2002ee IN NGC 5772 Tim Puckett and D. Toth, USA have reported a possible supernova in NGC 5772 according to an announcement on IAUC 7941. The first positive image with the 0.35-m automated telescope was on July 29.13UT when the magnitude was estimated to be 18.4. The position is: RA 14h 51m 40.55s DEC +40 36' 37.3" (2000) with offsets 18.3"E and 33.9"N of the galaxy's nucleus. SUPERNOVA 2002ef In NGC 7761 A LOTOSS report of a possible supernova in NGC 7761 appeared on IAUC 7943. First detection was on a KAIT image of July 30.4UT when the estimated magnitude was about 16.5. The position is: RA 23h 51m 29.54s DEC -13 22' 46.4" (2000), 10.0"E and 7.0"N of the galaxy's centre. SUPERNOVA 2002eg In UGC 11486 According to a report on IAUC 7944, E. Sanders of the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory, has detected an apparent supernova in UGC 11486 using the Plaskett 1.82-m telescope on July 26.34UT with the R magnitude was 17.5. The object has also been imaged by KAIT and the following position is available: RA 19h 49m 47.25s DEC +50 41' 53.6" (2000) with resulting offsets as 15.1"W and 7.2"N. It is noted that the recent supernova 2002dv (The Astronomer E- Circular 1787) also occurred very near to the new object. Guy M Hurst
